Eve Boltax has extensive experience as a professional viola and violin player. She began taking violin lessons at age 6 and progressed to playing with the Vermont Youth Orchestra during her high school years. In high school, she joined the school jazz band — playing on a purple electric violin, a gift from her father.

She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Massachusetts Amherst where she was a violin student of Elizabeth Chang and the recipient of the Julian Olevsky Scholarship and the 2010 Concerto Competition Winner. As a music major, she fulfilled a dual concentration in both classical and jazz studies.

Switching to viola when she got to graduate school, she received her Master of Music degree at the Longy School of Music as a student of Dimitri Murrath and was the recipient of the President’s Award for Teaching Artistry.

After her studies, Eve went on to become a founding member of the saxophone and viola duo, patchtax, who explored unconventional performance practices within the realm of classical chamber music. She was also a founding member of the Cardamom Quartet, who dedicated their programming to music by women. Her orchestral experience includes many seasons with the Vermont and Portland Symphony Orchestras, amongst others. As a performer of new music she performed with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Callithumpian Project, and the Equilibrium Ensemble. She also performed regularly with the classical period instrument orchestra, Grand Harmonie, and the Harvard Baroque Chamber Ensemble.

Eve continues to perform with the Mount Auburn Cemetery Chamber Players during the month-long Solstice event every December. On a weekly basis, she leads the Somatic Musicians' Lab, a community of musicians with an interest in the influence of the Feldenkrais Method on their personal musical practice.
